About the project

Windows 8: Times Square Retail Environment

In partnership in Microsoft, Manifold participated in a multi-agency campaign to launch Windows 8 to the public. We managed the technology & logistics necessary to deploy hundreds of computers and hundreds of trained staff out to the middle of Times Square to demo the amazing new hardware and software made possible by Windows 8.

We operated an open retail space, 14 hours per day for 3 days over 4 blocks throughout Times Square, resulting in high touch hands on trails and hundreds of millions of brand impressions, clearing the way for thousands of new customers.

On the ground, people could interact with Windows 8 at 20 kiosks featuring Microsoft Surfaces and other Windows 8 touch-enabled devices from partners like HP and Samsung, and visit the newly opened Microsoft Store in Times Square. As everyone started having fun with Windows 8 devices – playing games, drawing pictures and taking photos – it went live on several of the big screens above.

  • Microsoft has made it's play for the very center of Times Square with a hands-on experience for the public. This presentation adds to the already unique display the company has made for the press and the public in an effort to create a winning atmosphere for the birth of the newly released operating system.
